A global force in emergency services personal protection
Bristol Uniforms is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of head-to-toe protective clothing for firefighters – commonly referred to as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Today, we design and make specialist protective wear for the emergency services in the UK and to firemen and women in over 110 countries around the world. This includes firefighter clothing, bunker gear in the USA, wildland fire and rescue kit as well as technical and urban search & rescue (USAR) protective clothing.

Bristol, which employs over 100 people in the UK, is not only a leader in product design and development, but has been active for many years in helping the appropriate authorities in the UK and Europe to develop performance standards. Around half our sales are exported.
In 2008, Bristol secured the first ever national firefighter clothing contract to meet the UK government’s plans to improve the performance and efficiency of the public sector through its National Procurement Strategy. Through this scheme, the Integrated Clothing Project (ICP), England’s fire & rescue services are able to procure a wide range of PPE and non-PPE garments which have been independently assessed on nationally agreed terms.

A new International Distribution Centre was opened in the summer of 2009 on a new site, within easy acces of the motorway system, which provides 2000m2 of additional storage space for our growing range of firefighter and emergency services PPE.
The Company also provides comprehensive lifetime garment maintenance under its managed care programme which is part of its approach to providing a flexible, sustainable and cost effective solution to PPE procurement and ownership for all its customers. This service is provided from two locations in the UK. One of these is in Bristol, which opened in 2000. To meet the growing demand for managed services, and to provide added flexibility, a new facility was opened in early 2010 at Rainham, within easy reach of the M25 motorway and centrally located for London and the South East.

For more information about the company, its history and its contribution to the development of class leading protective equipment for the emergency services, see our About Us page.
