Bristol Care ^TM uses sophisticated computerised recording and tracking software to identify individual items of clothing or equipment using a barcode system. A full history of inspections, repairs, washing or decontamination enables individual police forces to monitor PPE throughout its service life and to take important decisions as to when to service or replace items included under a Bristol Care ^TM contract.

Its principal benefit is the guarantee it provides to the employer that it is at all times able to meet its statutory obligations under the Police (Health & Safety) Act 1997 and its compliance with BS7971. By outsourcing this responsibility to a specialist in PPE manufacture and maintenance, a police force is free to concentrate resources on delivering core activities.
